Be safe in the sun!
Even on cloudy days, the sun’s rays are powerful enough to burn. So don’t let a little sun spoil the party!
If you’re planning a family BBQ or outdoor get together, here are some tips to keep everyone sun safe and sound:
- Provide guests with broad-spectrum sunscreen—which protects against both UVA and UVB rays—with an SPF of 15 or higher.
- Opt for water- and sweat-proof sunscreen, especially if you’ll be swimming or playing sports. Remember to reapply after a dip or excessive sweating.
- Ensure your guests have plenty of places to sit in the shade. Put up a parasol, place chairs in the shade of the house, even string up blankets for a makeshift shady area. Encourage everyone to keep out of the sun during the peak hours of 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Have sun hats, caps, shawls, and loose, dark-coloured shirts on hand for people to cover up. Natural fibres like cotton keep you the coolest. If possible, provide guests with UVA/UVB treated sunglasses.
- Keep lots of refreshing drinks on hand so people can stay hydrated. Offer plenty of water and sports drinks, or try whipping up a batch of non-alcoholic punch, fresh lemonade or iced tea to quench everyone’s thirst.
A little planning ahead will help everyone feel good this summer!
